SSarah W.Berkhamsted
“I'd spent two weekends ringing round and got nowhere. Filled the form on a Sunday night, had a call Monday lunchtime and three visits booked by Thursday. Went with the second builder, the office went up in nine days and I've worked from it every day since.”

“Main thing for me was the floor. I lift heavy and two companies I'd found myself just said "it'll be fine". The builder they sent actually talked about joist spacing and put in a reinforced slab section under the rack. No pushy follow-up calls either.”

“Our garden is tiny and access is through the house, so we assumed nobody would take it on. All three builders came to look. One explained exactly what would fit without planning permission, which saved us a lot of worry. Lovely result.”

“This was a big decision for us, an annexe so Mum could be close but still have her own front door. The team checked in after each visit and were honest that one quote was missing the shower room drainage. That alone saved us about £4,000 of surprises.”

Our reply: Thank you Jenny. So glad your mum is settled in. Enjoy the summer in it!

“Good service and the room is excellent. Only knocking a star because one of the three builders took over a week to send his quote and I had to chase. The matching team did step in when I mentioned it, to be fair.”

Our reply: Thanks Mark, that's fair feedback. We've since added a 5-day quote deadline for every builder we work with.

“We're in the AONB so I was dreading planning. The builder I chose had done three studios within a couple of miles and knew exactly what the council would accept. North roof light is perfect for painting. Couldn't be happier.”

    • Data cable or mesh Wi-Fi for video calls
    • Heater or air-con for year-round use

Heavy kit and hard training need a stronger, cooler room.

Questions people ask

Do I need planning permission for a garden room?

Often not. In England most outbuildings count as permitted development, within limits on height, size and position. Rules are stricter in conservation areas and the Chilterns National Landscape. Your builder checks this for your plot.

How long does it take to build?

Most installs take 4 to 8 weeks once the design is agreed. Lead times change through the year.

Can I use it all year round?

Yes. The builders we work with make insulated, double-glazed rooms that stay usable in winter with a small heater.

What does Garden Room Match cost me?

Nothing. The service is free for homeowners. Builders may pay us a fee for each introduction.

Who will see my details?

Only the builders you are matched with, up to 3. We never sell your details to anyone else.
